TO CHANGE OR NOT TO CHANGE

Preplanning for the future of mass electric cars is definitely on the rise. Many developers are prewiring conduit in parking garages so that owners may, at their expense, install a charging station. However, retrofitting installation of these charging stations comes with a lot of headaches. Most existing garages do not have accessible wiring or space to accommodate the installation. If they do, the electrical usage is not sub metered, so how does the association determine reimbursable amount for charging? Who pays for the cost of the charger, the installation, maintenance, etc.?

Should we install charging stations in the common or guest parking and limit time usage for owners? Iím not sure the technology has developed enough to regulate associations on how to proceed. By the time they become mass produced, I predict there will be wireless chargers, much like we are seeing with cell phones today! Inventors out there, perhaps this is a project for you!
