BABY BOOMERS RETURNING

The time for baby boomers to retire ort to begin thinking about retiring is here. There seems to be a surge in construction of 55+ communities, assisted living communities and memory care facilities. These seem to be popping up on every corner. So let’s say you have decided to retire and move into a 55+ community. Your expectations are a carefree lifestyle with great social activities, like minded neighbors and well maintained common areas.

But what happens when one or more of your neighbors show signs of Alzheimer’s, Dementia or Senility? Who is responsible? As a society, more often than not, ones children are far less involved in the caring of their elderly parents than most other societies.

As a management firm, while we don’t have any 55+ communities as part of our portfolio, we do find that when faced with these aging illnesses the families are often not responsive to calls from management. I’m curious as to how these issues are successfully handled in a 55+ community. Do any of our readers have tips to help our Managers?
