IF YOU DIDN’T OPT OUT, REMEMBER NFPA-72!

The board did the math, the board got three bids, you listed out the pros and cons and after many discussions the decision was made not to opt out but to install a sprinkler system. YEAH!

But not so fast. Now there are mandatory inspections and maintenance expenses.

According to NFPA-72 (National Fire Protection Agency) statue 72 dictates the frequency of inspections are required to be completed by a licensed company. There are weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual inspections. Oh, and just a reminder, the annual inspection requires that every unit be entered and all sprinkler heads be inspected! For older communities who already have a sprinkler system but have not been doing your annual unit inspection, watch out! Fines have been reaching $25,000 plus! I get we want lives to be saved and property protected, but at what point do actual owners need to take personal responsibility for safe living? Is it possible that regulations will continue to place more and more financial burden on unit owners resulting in less association communities?
