RIGGED ELECTION TIME IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER

It’s that time of the year we all look forward to…….Annual Election time for Association Boards!! The only thing I’m certain about, this time around, is that the DPBR will be flooded with complaints of rigged elections, improper voting, candidate harassment and fraudulent votes. Hmmmmmm, sounds a lot like our current news media outlets on a national level! Many individuals come up with innovative ways to complain when running for office. Are these allowed by your association? Let’s see.

1.    Putting flyers on everyone’s door? Probably not. Look at your bylaws and rules and regulations.

2.    Email blasting the community? Look at your bylaws and rules & regulations

3.    Putting up signs in the common area? Look at your bylaws and rules and regulations.

4.    Hosting a meet and greet at the pool or clubhouse? Look at your community bylaws and rules and regulations.

5.    Wrapping your vehicle with advertisement? Does your community allow commercial vehicles? Read your bylaws and rules and regulations.

Kudos to you for running for the board and while we wish you the best of luck, remember it is best to ask for permission, read your bylaws and rules and regulations and get it in writing and you will avoid fines or unpleasantness. There will be enough of that when you’re elected! Happy Campaigning!
