UPDATE OF IMPORTANT BILLS

Today will be the last day of the 2021 Legislative Session in Florida. All our Community Association Priority Bills are ordered enrolled. But some of our planned amendments didn’t make it. They are noted for next year when the legislature has more time to deal with local bills and will – hopefully – not have to deal with political nonsense coming from Washington.

Some of the hotly debated – especially in the media -- general politics bills are still on the calendar, but will most likely voted upon favorably and will be sent to the desk of Governor Ron DeSantis for his signature.

Here is the latest update of the bills we followed as priority:

SB 56 -- Community Association Assessment Notices

House voted favorably 114:0, Senate voted favorably 39:0, Ordered Enrolled

SB 630 -- Community Associations

On 4/7/21 Senate voted favorably 40:0; On 4/27/21 the House voted favorably 114:0; Bill ordered enrolled

SB 996 --  Petition for Objection to Assessment  -- Substituted HB 649

Passed House and Senate favorably; ordered enrolled

HB 1005/SB 1490 -- Investment of Condominium Association Funds

Died in Committees

HB 1: Combating Public Disorder

Voted favorably by House 76:39 and Senate 23:17; Signed by Officers and presented to Governor; Approved by Governor.

SB 76 -- Property Insurance

House (75:41) and Senate (35:5) voted favorably; Bill ordered engrossed, then enrolled.

SB 90 -- Election Administration

Senate voted favorably 23:17; House voted favorably as amended 77:40; Ordered engrossed, then enrolled.

SB 1028; SB 2012 -- Charter Schools, Promoting Equality of Athletic Opportunity

Passed House and Senate favorably; ordered enrolled

associations. He moved to Florida in 1995 - hoping to retire. He moved into a HOA, where the developer cheated the homeowners and used the association dues for his own purposes. End of retirement!

CCFJ was born in the year 2000, when some owners met in Tallahassee - finding out that power is only in numbers. Bergemann was a member of Governor Jeb Bush's HOA Task force in 2003/2004.

The organization has two websites to inform interested Florida homeowners and condo owners:

News Website: http://www.ccfj.net/.

Educational Website: http://www.ccfjfoundation.net/.

We think that only owners can really represent owners, since all service providers surely have a different interest! We are trying to create owner-friendly laws, but the best laws are useless without enforcement. And enforcement is totally lacking in Florida !
