OVERBUILDING – WITH NO INFRASTRUCTURE IN PLACE

In order to create more and more property taxes – in order to have more money to waste for stupid programs, county and city commissioners are allowing more and more homes and hi-rise condominiums to be built – without requiring the developers to pay for the necessary infrastructure. And instead of lowering our property taxes they are increasing every year. As usual: Empty promises of politicians.

When I moved to Deland in 2005 there was plenty of space in the parking lots of the supermarkets. You could take your pick where you wanted to park your car. Now you have to drive around in order to find an empty spot or find a spot where somebody is just leaving.

Our main street has more and more traffic lights for all the new roads accommodating the new HOAs being built left and right. And when you go to the city commission meetings you will hear the absolutely stupid argument that more homes mean more income which will enable them to lower the property taxes. Do they all think that we are all totally stupid?

Well, in less than two weeks are elections. We have here in Volusia a slate of county commission candidates who will challenge the old sitting commissioners who for years allowed developers to build whatever they wanted. It’s always easy to see which commission candidates are pro-developers and which ones are against overbuilding. The campaigns of the pro-developer candidates are well financed.

So, if you feel that the overbuilding here in Florida should stop, vote for the candidates whose campaigns are financed by the local citizens – and not by the developers.

associations. He moved to Florida in 1995 - hoping to retire. He moved into a HOA, where the developer cheated the homeowners and used the association dues for his own purposes. End of retirement!

CCFJ was born in the year 2000, when some owners met in Tallahassee - finding out that power is only in numbers. Bergemann was a member of Governor Jeb Bush's HOA Task force in 2003/2004.

The organization has two websites to inform interested Florida homeowners and condo owners:

We think that only owners can really represent owners, since all service providers surely have a different interest! We are trying to create owner-friendly laws, but the best laws are useless without enforcement. And enforcement is totally lacking in Florida !
