Emails have become a necessary evil throughout the years. While it has helped us communicate, speed up response times, allow for better documentation, it has also created many challenges. Some of the complex challenges to deal with are the interpretation of emails and how easy it could be to say what's on your mind, not thinking that the email will last forever. Online you will find many email etiquette recommendations; however, below, I've highlighted the ten points you should consider before hitting that send button.

1. Write a clear subject line
2. Start with a professional greeting
3. Keep it short
4. Refrain from humor
5. Structure the email properly
6. Use sentence case
7. Watch your tone
8. Write like nothing is confidential
9. Spare the exclamation points!!!
10. Be aware of cultural differences.

In closing, your emails should be short and sweet. If you aren't sure if you should send that email, you shouldn't. Sometimes it's much easier to pick up the phone and talk to the person.
