MEASURE TWICE, CUT ONCE

Associations are nonprofit organizations managed by volunteer board members. Boards have a responsibility to abide by the associations' documents, uphold or improve the conditions/assets of the association, keep residents safe and be a leader for the residents that elected you to the position.

To do all of the above, you must have a strong team of industry experts that understand the industry and their area of expertise. No different than a business owner who relies on their attorney, accountant, or business coach to bounce ideas or concerns off. However, most, not all associations try to go about it on their own to save a couple of bucks, or worst, try to get the answers from someone that shouldn't be giving the advice, as the adage goes... penny wise pound foolish. Board members and residents alike should understand theirs cost to run a business. That should not hold them back from contacting their advisors to make the best possible decision for the association and its residents.

Money is better spent analyzing a situation with your advisors/vendors before making assumptions or jumping to conclusions in the long haul.
