September is National Preparedness Month. Every year, Floridians brace themselves for another hurricane season. From stocking up on flashlights to filling up gas tanks, it’s a state of readiness that’s become all too familiar. But what about other kinds of natural disasters like a fire, flood or tornado? Is your community equipped to handle a medical emergency? Here are a few steps you can take to prepare for any hazardous situation and keep your residents safe:

1.  Know your risk. Many disasters can easily be prevented by taking the right precautions. Learn about the potential risks that may affect your area.

2.  Create a disaster plan. Get informed on what to do before, during and after any given emergency.

3.  Sign up for alerts. Download the FEMA app to access weather alerts right on your mobile.

4.  Review your insurance coverage. Make sure your property is protected and get all documents in order.
