LET'S CHANGE THE PROCESS

If you sit on an HOA board, it is vital to have your association attorney review your documents so they can outline the necessary steps to host a valid election.  Unfortunately for HOA's, there isn't a specific process as there is for condos.  I know Eric and Jan have advocated for the HOA election process to be similar to condos; however, it gets shot down each time.

 

The reality is that most residents don't get involved unless the budget is increased significantly or a special assessment is passed, and that's a shame. If you are not careful, a board can have a positive or negative impact on your investment. Unfortunately, by the time you find out that things are headed in the wrong direction, it's too late. Changing the voting and quorum requirements for HOA's to mirror that of Condo's can help make the selection process more straightforward and have a higher probability of getting the votes needed for an election
