Celebrating the wins…

Your documents provide the process and steps that should be followed to conduct an Annual Meeting; however, if you want to improve your attendance, you must take some extra steps. For instance, we have a couple of associations that do the following:

  1. Promote – To get people to attend any event you most remind and entice them. A simple E-Flyer, that cost nothing, can be sent via email and posted on all bulletin boards. One idea we saw this year was a Board that decided to do a Meet & Greet thirty minutes before the Annual Meeting started. Attendance increased two fold.

  2. Food – Eric was on point when he mentioned serving food at your Annual Meetings. Nothing brings a crowd like free food and drinks.  Add some music and the smiles will be plentiful.

  3. Reports– If you are taking the above steps, the probability of members attending will be much higher. As such, Board Members and Committees alike should be prepared to present all the work that was completed for the year. Each committee chair should have a kind of report to reflect the work that’s been done over the past year. If you want to make a real impact, have a projector/tv reflecting before and after pictures of improvements. Show them where their contribution is going.

Many times board members complain that they don’t receive any credit for the work they do. We all know this kind of work is thankless, it is essential to celebrate the wins.  You don’t have to wait for the Annual Meeting to do that, however it is an excellent opportunity to shine the light on all the work that has been done by your board and the team that works within your community.

I’d love to hear from our readers… what do you during your Annual Meeting?
