CHANGE IS SLOW IN COMING

I stand up and applaud Eric for his poignant blog on Monday. His words could not be more true. Over the past 4 years my relationship with Jan Bergemann, CCFJ and Eric have truly opened my eyes to just how short sighted and misaligned the state legislators are when it comes to regulating associations.

As you know, my firm manages thousands of units throughout the Southeast. I continue to be baffled as to how Florida can have, by far, the most detailed state statute for association regulation and have the DPBR for oversight, yet also have the most mismanagement, theft of funds and overall fraudulent activity claims. The system is clearly broken!

And while Jan and Eric work tirelessly to try and get legislators to make the necessary changes to right the ship, change is slow in coming. Why is that? It's simple. The developers, banks and land owners are big contributors to campaigns so legislators won't, as the saying goes, bite the hand that feeds them. My question is, when will someone break rank, team with Jan, Eric and the homeowners to fight the establishment. Everyone wants to complain, but few are willing to take action!
