COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS

The most common misconception some board members have, is that their life experiences, professional experiences and previous board experience, in other states, gives them all the expertise needed to be an effective board member in Florida. They believe that they can successfully comply with all state regulations and requirements of the association documents by simply signing the affidavit stating they have read the association documents.

So in this way of thinking, if I go online and pay $250 and get a certificate showing I graduated with a degree in child psychology….POOF… I’m now qualified to treat patients!!! Even if I only graduated high school, or I worked as a manager at McDonalds for 25 years, I know how to run an association! My favorite, and this happens all of the time, is those who have lived and served on boards in other states and will argue until they are blue in the face, that the same laws apply.
