NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW

Having been married to a police officer for the past 24 years. I can attest that I always feel safer when he’s around. But like most of you, let a police car get behind me on the highway and I slow down, constantly check my rear view mirror and silently pray he will pass me by!

 

Over the years, we have found it extremely beneficial to have a member of law enforcement present at meetings that tend to be volatile. There is just something about a professional in uniform with a gun and taser that tends to make people be on their best behavior. But what about the board members who think the rules don’t apply to them. I recently attended a board meeting where the Board members were screaming, cussing and throwing things at each other. This behavior only seems to agitate the homeowners who soon joined in the mayhem! I seriously thought it was going to turn into a full blown brawl like you see in the movies! There is no doubt that a law enforcement officer could have kept the situation from escalating but he would have had to start with the board of directors. The board must lead by example and must show solidarity to be successful and to lead the homeowners towards common goals.
