During
this time every year, the DPBR is overwhelmed by complaints of
irregular or illegal election proceedings. If you're a
Condominium Owner you have recourse. If you believe the Board is
not following the proper protocol, present it to the office of
the Condominium ombudsman; Mr. Bruce Campbell who will take
control of the election process and ensure it is followed to the
letter.
But
what about the HOA's, unfortunately there is currently no place
to turn if your Board is making up the election rules as they go
along. This lack of regulation directly results in the current
level of mistrust and dissatisfaction with many HOA Boards. HOA
Boards hide behind the lack of regulation and oversight; after
all there is no one to complain to and no one to hold them
accountable.
As
members of an HOA you have little to no recourse to ensure
elections are performed properly. But, as a Homeowner wanting
change, there is something you can do. Sign up for CCFJ's

legislations to make the necessary changes to 720 in the state
statute. Get involved and get results!
