MAYBE NOT PREVALENT, BUT CERTAINLY PRESENT!

For those who know me, they know I’m a “resolve it NOW”, kind of person. As one of the few females who own a large, successful management firm. I can unequivocally say, while I’ve never witnessed or heard claim of sexual harassment, I have experienced sex discrimination on more than one occasion. The worst case was managing a very large conversion from rentals to condominiums for a foreign developer. Due to the time difference between our countries, I frequently received calls from this developer at 4:00am. One morning, upon receiving a call from the developer, he demanded to have maintenance turn the electricity off in a number of units, so the renters would move out. I politely declined, explaining this was not legal, could not be done and I would not risk my license to do anything illegal. To this he stated, “You are stupid American woman, you will do as I say, we have a contract!” My response was swift, “Well I’m the stupid American woman who is terminating our contract”!

 

To all those who have been harassed or discriminated against, I say, don’t wait years to call someone out! Stand up for yourselves immediately.
