It seems that often times Board members in Florida take their Board position far too serious. Don’t get me wrong, serving on an Association Board is serious business. But often we hear complaints that Board members are running the community like a dictatorship. I recently took a call from an irate homeowner who said the Board President was caught looking into the homeowner’s window taking photos and sending violation notices to anyone who had plants on the windowsill, inside the unit. In the same week, we received a call claiming that a Board President had installed a surveillance system having control assigned to his personal cell-phone and as owners would come home late in the evening and perhaps had too many cocktails, this Board President would call them at home and reprimand them for their poor behavior. And less we not forget the constant claims of misuse of Association funds. The question I ask is, what is it about serving on a Board that makes some people think they can be in full control of others? Do you have any crazy board stories? Let us hear from you.
