There
are no holidays or weekends for Board members. You are on call
24/7. Even if you have a CAM managing your Association, I would
venture to say that unhappy Homeowners knock on your door,
complain at the pool, stop you in the elevator and even approach
you at your local bar.
As
a proactive Management Firm, we make every attempt to educate
our Board Members on establishing the proper protocol for
discussing Association or community business. We remind them
that they are volunteers and they pay a Management Company to
manage the affairs of the community. Their job is to make
decisions, supervise and direct the Management Company. So how
does the Board stop the constant invasion of their private time?
1.
If someone knocks on your door, sends an email or calls you.
Simply tell them, "I would love to help but you will need
to call the Management Company, they can assist you."
2.
If someone approaches you in the common areas or amenities,
simply say, "Gosh, I'm relaxing but you really need to call
the Management Company, I can't help you, but they can."
Trust
me if you don't participate in gossipy conversations and your
response is always, "Call the Management Company, they can
help", you will begin to see your private time is returning
and Homeowners are less likely to intrude.
