MANDATORY EDUCATION – FOR FREE!

Now everybody has to attend seminar, if you are – or want to
become – a board member. And so do community association
managers – but not if they have a license for more than ten (10)
years. Not sure who came up with such nonsense?
But as
soon as the bills containing the provisions for mandatory
education were signed by the Governor, folks smelling money were
quick to offer the required seminars, but charging money to
attend. Some prices are reasonable, but some are pretty
outrageous.
There are
still lots of seminars available for free. See attorney
Eric Glazer’s
schedule for his great seminars – he even answers
questions from attendees – and you get a free lunch on top of
it.
The
Miami-Dade community college is working on offering free
seminars – schedules to be announced in the near future.
I don’t
think that board members should attend costly seminars and
charge the cost to the association. Owners who want to run for
the board and want to state that they already attended the
necessary seminars in their resume, can’t charge the cost to the
association. Neither do owners, who want to educate themselves
and want to learn all about community association statutes in
order to protect the biggest investment of their life.
Don’t
forget: KNOWLEDGE IS POWER! Make sure you know enough
about rules and regulations governing the association you are
living in.
Remember:
Power corrupts – and more power corrupts even more!
Make sure
you educate yourself so you know everything about statutes,
rules and regulations in order to prevent board members and
community association managers abusing the powers given to them!

in 1995 - hoping to retire. He moved into a HOA, where the
developer cheated the homeowners and used the association dues
for his own purposes. End of retirement!

We think that only owners can really represent owners, since all
service providers surely have a different interest! We are
trying to create owner-friendly laws, but the best laws are
useless without enforcement. And enforcement is totally lacking
