I wish you all a HAPPY NEW YEAR – wishing that all our “dreams” for the year 2014 come true!

I would like to thank all of you for reading our blog (49,037 visitors on the Home Page during the year 2013) and visiting our websites. We never had such heavy “traffic” like last year – I actually had to increase the allowed traffic usage for the CCFJ websites. Thank you all for supporting our cause! The numbers speak for themselves!

Now that the holidays are over we can slowly – but surely – return to our normal lives – right?

We have a BIG AGENDA for the year 2014 – lots to do and a lot of work ahead of us. Part II of the HOA REFORM BILL will headline our agenda for 2014. We again hired the services of Richard Pinsky from Akerman Senterfitt, who did in years past an excellent job of pushing our agenda in Tallahassee . But he can only be effective if we all help by contacting our legislators and promote our bill. We will never be able to outspend the opposing industry – we still need lots of donations to pay for our cost of lobbying for the bill – but our power is in numbers. Meaning: We all need to participate!

My wish to all of you: Contact your local legislators and the legislators sitting on committees that will hear our bill. A lot is at stake for all members of mandatory community associations. Not only are we trying to put mandatory HOAs – regulated by FS 720 – under the jurisdiction of the Division of Florida Condominiums, Homeowners’ Associations, Timeshares, and Mobile Homes, we will as well attempt to lower the annual fees for all homes and condo-units from $4 to $2. There will be still enough funds in the Trust Fund to create a “Cadillac” of a regulatory agency that will take care of much needed consumer-protection in Florida !

A lot of work is ahead of us in 2014 – let’s do it!

I wish you all a HAPPY and SUCCESSFUL YEAR 2014!

Jan Bergemann is president of Cyber Citizens For Justice, Florida's largest state-wide property owners' advocacy group. CCFJ works on legislation to help owners living in community associations. He moved to Florida in

1995 - hoping to retire. He moved into a HOA, where the developer cheated the homeowners and used the association dues for his own purposes. End of retirement!

CCFJ was born in the year 2000, when some owners met in Tallahassee - finding out that power is only in numbers. Bergemann was a member of Governor Jeb Bush's HOA Task force in 2003/2004.

The organization has two websites to inform interested Florida homeowners and condo owners:

News Website: http://www.ccfj.net/.

Educational Website: http://www.ccfjfoundation.net/.

We think that only owners can really represent owners, since all service providers surely have a different interest! We are trying to create owner-friendly laws, but the best laws are useless without enforcement. And enforcement is totally lacking in Florida !
