FLORIDA HOA & CONDO BLOG –

A SUCCESSFUL FIRST YEAR!

When we started this blog this week a year ago, we didn’t really know what to expect. We just tried – hoping that homeowners and condo owners would like what we had to say and give us their input on specific issues discussed. To be very honest: I was positively surprised about the number of hits and the number of comments.

Last month we had quadrupled the number of hits on the website compared to the first month of its existence.

There are a few other blogs here in Florida , dealing with the same issues. Not one of them comes even close to the popularity of our BLOG!

I think that the same topic discussed by an attorney, a community association manager and a homeowner advocate makes this blog especially interesting. Interesting topics create interesting comments – and interesting comments and opinions are making this blog a success.

Make no mistake: We bloggers can only initiate the discussion by mixing hot topics with education. The comments are the life blood of this blog – nothing else. The comments posted are showing how the readers feel – and what they think about the topic and the post.

There are some newspapers and private websites trying to get a blog going. One newspaper had a very interesting blog that caused a lot of readers to comment – until they turned this blog into a private advertising page for two law firms – and it more or less died due to lack of interest. Just look at the number of comments under these blogs: Close to Zero! And if there are comments, they are posted by other bloggers trying to cheer each other up!

Controversy makes every blog interesting. And there is plenty of controversy found in Florida ’s community associations. Actually, not a day passes by when the media is not reporting about some serious problems in community associations.

That doesn’t bode well for the owners, but it sure gives us bloggers plenty to write about!

I wish to say “Thank you” to my two fellow bloggers and the many interested folks who visited our blog and posted lots of comments!

Let’s make it an even better year with hopefully more positive topics. Thank you!

Jan Bergemann

Jan Bergemann is president of Cyber Citizens For Justice, Florida 's largest state-wide property owners' advocacy group. CCFJ works on legislation to help owners living in community

associations. He moved to Florida in 1995 - hoping to retire. He moved into a HOA, where the developer cheated the homeowners and used the association dues for his own purposes. End of retirement!

CCFJ was born in the year 2000, when some owners met in Tallahassee - finding out that power is only in numbers. Bergemann was a member of Governor Jeb Bush's HOA Task force in 2003/2004.

The organization has two websites to inform interested Florida homeowners and condo owners:

News Website: http://www.ccfj.net/.

Educational Website: http://www.ccfjfoundation.net/.

We think that only owners can really represent owners, since all service providers surely have a different interest! We are trying to create owner-friendly laws, but the best laws are useless without enforcement. And enforcement is totally lacking in Florida !
