CHANGE IS NEEDED

Board members have many responsibilities they
must adhere to fulfill their role. In addition to the governance of
your association and the day-to-day operation, you must also stay on
top of the changes that occur in the law each year. The only way to
stay on top of these issues is by attending a course that goes over
what you should know as a board member, the responsibility you
carry, and changes in the law.
The past two years have taught us many lessons,
and if there was ever a time for needed change, it’s now. Having the
board get certified each year will bring awareness to the
seriousness of the role and its importance to the community's
financial health, operation, and safety. Further, now that everyone
is used to using Teams, Zoom, etc., it makes it much easier to get
certified from the comforts of your home.
In addition to having boards get certified, I
would also like to see the state require an attorney teach such
certification. A significant portion of the course covers governing
documents and legal updates, so in my opinion, that should only be
done by an attorney and no one else.
I'll leave you with this...
An investment in knowledge pays the best
interest. – Benjamin Franklin
