TIME TO COME TOGETHER

Civility, Collaboration, and Communication are key items dwindling
in our society. While we grow increasingly attentive to national
events and politics, we must also notice that the tone of national
politics has somehow taken hold of how local issues are handled in
our very own community associations. We have all seen or heard of
board, budget, or annual meetings going completely wrong involving
disrespectful, inappropriate, or disruptive conduct.
There
has to be a realization that the very concept of association living
is, in fact, a cooperative approach to living. Neighbors are coming
together to share common spaces, experiences, resources, and
decision-making processes. The pragmatic realization of this single
truth provides absolute clarity to how people should be dealing with
each other to fulfill the purpose of association living,
Whatever the outcome of contentious elections, decisions, debates,
discussions, it is essential that there be a rational and positive
process that allows all points to be communicated and evaluated on
its own merits. Most importantly, that whatever the outcome is, it
is respected and supported in good spirit because it only
strengthens the free democratic system that allowed it.
Additionally, maintaining a positive environment can avoid apathetic
civic attitudes and increase overall engagement in the local
community. This increased participation also improves overall
community conditions.
The
very reason civilization exists is through the process of people
coming together to share ideas, efforts, and resources. We must all
see the strengths and value of each other’s participation and
opinions.
